about
The inspiration for this track is a book titled "Voices from Chernobyl", an oral history of the Chernobyl disaster taken from interviews with the Romanian people affected by it. I was struck not only by the desolation of the exclusion zone, but by the emotional isolation of the people affected by the radiation. The title comes from the wife of a fireman who responded to the reactor explosion, and her account of her husband's death from radiation poisoning.
